- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, oil, vanilla extract, and melted German chocolate.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting by combining the coconut and chopped pecans in a bowl.
- Once the cakes have cooled, spread the coconut-pecan frosting on top of one cake layer, then top with the second layer. Frost the top and sides with the remaining frosting.
