Ingredients

Cake Base
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree or applesauce
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting & Decorations
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting divided by color (orange, yellow, brown)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate ganache optional for filling or drip effect
  • 1/4 cup fondant leaves or edible toppers for decoration

Equipment

  • Cake pans
  • Spatula
  • Mixer

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, then mix in pumpkin puree and vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour batter evenly into pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool completely before frosting and decorating.
  7. For decoration ideas: Use orange buttercream with fondant leaves for a fall-themed cake, chocolate frosting with maple decorations for a cozy look, or a turkey topper with yellow frosting for a fun centerpiece.
