Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Baking Pan
  • Mixer

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour the boiling water into the batter and stir to combine. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
