Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Black food coloring
  • 1 cup White frosting

Equipment

  • Cake Pan
  • Piping Bags
  • Cake Turntable

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Add in the softened butter and continue mixing until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
  5. Once the cake is cooled, frost the entire cake with white frosting. To create the spider web design, use a piping bag to draw concentric circles of frosting on the cake.
  6. Use a toothpick or a small knife to drag lines from the center of the cake outward to form a spider web pattern. For an extra spooky touch, add small plastic spiders to the cake.
