Ingredients
  

Chocolate Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
Frosting and Decoration
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • orange and black food coloring
  • Halloween candies or sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add hot water and stir until combined. Batter will be thin.
  5. Pour into prepared pans and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  6. Cream butter, powdered sugar, and milk for frosting. Divide and tint with food coloring.
  7. Frost cooled cakes, layer, and decorate with Halloween candies or designs.
