- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and milk until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cakes are cooled, frost the cakes with black and orange frosting. Use the candy eyeballs to decorate the top and create spooky faces or designs.
