Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 medium apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
Topping
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Mix in the yogurt (or sour cream) until smooth.
  5. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until combined.
  6. Pour half the batter into the pan, layer half the apple slices, then add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the apples.
  7. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top for a caramelized crust.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
