Cake Batter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • food coloring various colors

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well.
  3. Whisk flour and baking powder together, then add gradually while mixing. Pour in milk and blend until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into the pan and bake 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. To make frosting: beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until creamy. Divide and color if desired.
  6. Frost the cake with a smooth base layer, then pipe rosettes and decorations around the edges and top.

Notes
