Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a small bowl, melt 1/2 cup of butter and mix with the brown sugar. Pour this mixture into the bottom of the prepared cake pan.
- Arrange the apple slices on top of the brown sugar mixture, covering the bottom of the pan. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and milk until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter over the apple slices in the cake pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then flip it over onto a plate to reveal the caramelized apple topping.
