Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix in the vanilla extract and stir until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, spread a layer of black food coloring over one layer of cake and green food coloring on the other to create a spooky effect.
- Decorate the cakes with chocolate chips and any other spooky decorations of your choice, such as ghost-shaped icing or creepy spider webs made from icing.
