- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
- Gradually pour in hot coffee, mixing until the batter is glossy and well combined. The batter will be thin — that’s perfect.
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, milk, and vanilla; beat until fluffy and spreadable.
- Frost between the layers and over the top. Garnish with strawberries, blueberries, and chocolate shavings.
