Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • sprinkles and candles for decoration

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool completely on racks before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar gradually. Add milk and vanilla, mixing until fluffy.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes, layer them, and decorate with sprinkles and candles.
