Ingredients
  

Cake & Frosting
  • 1 9x13 cake cooled and crumbled
  • 1/3 cup buttercream frosting add more if needed
Coating & Decoration
  • 12 oz candy melts or coating chocolate
  • 1 tbsp vegetable shortening or coconut oil optional, to thin coating
  • sprinkles, nuts, or candy decorations

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Microwave-safe Bowl
  • Styrofoam block or cake pop stand

Method
 

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs.
  2. Mix in frosting a little at a time until the mixture holds together like dough.
  3. Roll into 24 even balls. Place on prepared sheet and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Melt a small amount of candy coating. Dip the tip of each stick into it, then insert into each ball. Chill 10 minutes.
  5. Melt remaining coating in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds. Thin with shortening if needed.
  6. Dip each pop into coating, tap off excess, and decorate with sprinkles or nuts before it sets.
  7. Stand pops upright in a styrofoam block to dry. Chill briefly to fully set before serving.
