Ingredients
  

Apple Layer
  • 2 cans apple pie filling (21 oz each)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg optional
Topping
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional
Serving
  • whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread apple pie filling evenly in the prepared dish. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the top.
  3. Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the apples — do not stir.
  4. Drizzle melted butter evenly across the surface, ensuring most of the mix is moistened. Add chopped nuts if desired.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For extra flavor, use spice cake mix instead of yellow. This recipe can also be made with fresh sliced apples tossed in cinnamon sugar.
