Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, cream 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with 1/2 cup of milk. Mix until just combined. Gently fold in 2 cups of chopped apples and 1/2 cup of walnuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
