Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between the pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes completely before frosting.
- For the buttercream, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in cream and vanilla. Adjust consistency as needed.
- Divide the frosting into bowls and tint with pink and gold food coloring to create an ombré effect.
- Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers and around the sides. Use a spatula to blend colors seamlessly.
- Pipe decorative swirls on top and add edible gold accents, flowers, or number candles for the final touch.
