  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • edible gold dust or sprinkles for decoration

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing just until combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly into pans and bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool completely on a rack.
  8. For frosting: beat butter until creamy, add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in cream and vanilla.
  9. Spread frosting between cake layers and over the top. Dust with edible gold for a festive finish.
