Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting & Decoration
  • 3 cups buttercream frosting white, with extra for coloring if desired
  • 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles for layering and decorating
  • 2 number candles for 18

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  3. Sift flour and baking powder. Alternate adding dry mixture and milk to wet mixture until smooth.
  4. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake 30–35 minutes, until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Cool cakes completely before frosting with buttercream.
  6. Decorate with rainbow sprinkles and top with golden number candles.
